Former Lowestoft Wartime Evacuees are invited to their annual Summer Reunion which will take place at the town’s railway station on Saturday, 6 June 2026.

A popular exhibition featuring photos and memories of the former Lowestoft to Yarmouth Railway will run at Gorleston Library from Monday 1 to Friday 5 June.

People arriving at Lowestoft Railway Station will have better bus connections to Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Southwold and tourist attractions including Pleasurewood Hills and Africa Alive! as First Bus begins running its 99 service and X1 services via the station bus interchange.

The Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership and the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership along with parent organisation Community Rail Norfolk have been re-accredited by industry trade body, Community Rail Network on behalf of the Department for Transport, with recognition based upon their extensive efforts over the past year and an array of exciting plans for the future.

Images have been revealed showing how Lowestoft’s historic railway station could look with a reinstated concourse roof enabling better facilities for rail passengers and creating a unique tourist attraction for the town.

Lowestoft Railway Station is to offer another chance to see the critically acclaimed exhibition, A Thousand Kisses, telling the story of the Kindertransport through the experiences of eight children, to mark the anniversary of a Kindertransport arrival in the town during December 1938.

Passengers travelling through Great Yarmouth have been welcomed by a Broads Discovery Hub, installed as part of a series of improvements to the station environment.

The Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and Lowestoft Central Project are supporting Lowestoft’s Heritage Open Days Festival once again this year, providing a base for the festival information hub, hosting exhibitions and guided walks as well as sponsoring print and publicity.

Last weeks visit to Lowestoft station of the Railway 200 touring exhibition train, Inspiration attracted the highest visitor numbers for any station on the trains nationwide tour to date, second only to an appearance at the Greatest Gathering Exhibition at Alstom’s historic Litchurch Lane works in Derby which featured some 140 visiting trains and locomotives and attracted some 40,000 people to the wider event.
