The Lowestoft Central Project, together with the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership have completed another major milestone in their scheme to create a heritage quarter at Lowestoft station, which will focus on the former transportation of fish and aggregates.

The Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership together with the Lowestoft Central Project are once again supporting this September’s Heritage Open Day’s events in and around Lowestoft by hosting exhibitions, sponsoring printed material and promotion as well as hosting and staffing the Festival Information Hub.

In 1903 Legendary American showman Buffalo Bill visited Great Britain with a spectacular live Wild West show featuring some 800 performers and 500 horses. A new exhibition at
Lowestoft railway station is set to tell more about the event.

Lowestoft Railway Station’s Community Rail Shop and Tourist Information Office has received an upgrade to mark its sixth year in operation with additional space created for printed guides and new displays.

The Wherry 100 bus service which connects rail passengers arriving at Great Yarmouth station with the town centre, bus station, seafront attractions and one of the area’s largest holiday parks will run again this year with extended dates.

The Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership and Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnerships travelled to London Liverpool Street station as part of the national Community Rail Week to promote the lines which run from Norwich via the Broads National Park to the coast at Sheringham, Cromer, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Former Lowestoft Wartime Evacuees are invited to their annual Summer Reunion which will take place at the town’s railway station on Saturday, 6 June 2026.

A popular exhibition featuring photos and memories of the former Lowestoft to Yarmouth Railway will run at Gorleston Library from Monday 1 to Friday 5 June.

People arriving at Lowestoft Railway Station will have better bus connections to Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Southwold and tourist attractions including Pleasurewood Hills and Africa Alive! as First Bus begins running its 99 service and X1 services via the station bus interchange.

The Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership and the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership along with parent organisation Community Rail Norfolk have been re-accredited by industry trade body, Community Rail Network on behalf of the Department for Transport, with recognition based upon their extensive efforts over the past year and an array of exciting plans for the future.
