Time and Tide Museum

The works closed in 1988 and ten years later, they were purchased for conversion into a museum. Set in one of the UK’s best preserved Victorian Herring curing works, the museum tells the story of Great Yarmouth from its ice age origins to the present day.

Visitors have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a 1950’s fish wharf and listen to gripping tales of wreck and rescue. One of the highlights of a visit would certainly be the chance to explore the original smokehouses. The aroma of smoked fish still lingers as a reminder of the building’s former life. You’ll find plenty of ‘hands on’ displays, fascinating archive film shows and a maritime-themed courtyard to relax in.
