Another chance to view acclaimed Railway Posters Exhibition as Arts & Crafts Weekend returns to Railway Station

16th June 2025

Some of the area’s top crafters and makers will be at Lowestoft Railway Station this Saturday and Sunday as the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and Lowestoft Central Project host their annual Arts and Crafts Weekend.

The event also brings another opportunity to see the acclaimed Wherry Lines Posters Exhibition which saw students work with a professional artist to create modern versions of traditional 1920s railway advertising featuring Norwich, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Reedham and Berney Arms.

Admission is free to the event which runs on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June daily from 10am until 4pm. Stalls will be located both inside the stations restored Parcels Office and outside on the concourse and are set to include a varied selection of hand-made items.

In addition, the stations volunteer run community rail shop and tourist information office will be open throughout for refreshments, books, crafts, souvenirs, railway artefacts, railway timetables and a host of free guides to attractions and events across the region this summer.

Jacqui Dale from the Lowestoft Central Project said, “We are looking forward to hosting our annual Arts and Crafts Weekend with indoor and outdoor stalls featuring a host of talented artists, crafters and makers from across the area along with another chance to view the hugely popular Wherry Lines Posters Exhibition. With the event coinciding with both festival weekend and Saturday’s Suffolk Day, the station is set to be a hive of activity.”

In recent years, Lowestoft station which dates back to 1855 has undergone a renaissance with buildings restored and repurposed providing space for community events and activities, doorways closed for over half a century have been reopened better connecting the station with the town centre and key events in the station’s history including the wartime schools evacuation and arrival of the Kindertransport are celebrated in a series of giant interpretation panels installed on the concourse. The Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership is currently celebrating 25 years of supporting the railway’s in Norfolk & Suffolk.

Throughout 2025 the station is also joining national celebrations marking 200 years since the first passenger train and in August will welcome the Railway 200 and National Railway Museum Exhibition Train, Inspiration.

Organisers are once again offering free concourse pitches during the event to local charities, for further information please email lowestoftcentral@gmail.com
